Bieber made the announcement on Instagram and said that he will talk about his struggle with the incurable disease in a YouTube documentary that will be coming soon.

He even called out the people who were saying that he looked horrible because he was on meth:

They failed to realise I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.

He also said that he was suffering with disease for more than a year without getting it diagnosed, only recently he visited a doctor who figured out what actually the problem was.

His wife Hailey Bieber also shot out at the critics

Pop singer Avril Lavigne and model Gigi Hadid offered their support and wished well to Bieber. Avril has suffered from Lyme disease in the past when she was bed-ridden for five months during 2015.

He also has an emotional, heartfelt message for his critics and haters

Justin also reminded people of this message where he had talked about his journey from being a “teenage heartthrob” to being the most hated and mocked person in the world.

It was a long post on Instagram where he talked about rising to stardom as a child, and how that made him arrogant and selfish. Eventually, the stardom took him along spiralling depression and then towards drug abuse. Then he became an angry, inconsiderate brat who was disrespectful and abusive towards women and most people in general.

I became distant to everyone who loved me, and I was hiding behind, a shell of a person that I had become.

Although, it is quite obvious that meeting Hailey Baldwin was a life-changing moment for Bieber who became more mature and level-headed as she seems to have changed him for good.

He promises to bounce back

It’s been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever.

What is Lyme disease? And what should you know about it?

Lyme disease is caused by infected ticks when they bite a human. The symptoms of Lyme disease are fever, chills, headahce, body pain, tiredness, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash at the place of bite which later grows to look like a “bull’s eye”.

The rash from an infected tick’s bite doesn’t hurt in most cases, although it feels slightly warm and then keeps growing in size up to 12 inches.

If people are treated during the initial stage of Lyme disease then they can recover by just taking a three-week course of antibiotics.

If it remains undetected for longer, then it might cause severe symptoms such as constant tingling and numbness, shooting nerve pains, pain in muscles and bones, painful headache, stiff neck, and the patient can even get facial palsy in which the face droops and facial muscles become inactive and unresponsive.

The tricky part about Lyme disease is that you can be infected for months before the symptoms appear. Somtimes the disease remains dormant for many months before it begins to show any signs. In any case of late stage treatment, people are given intravenous antibiotics and offered extensive care along with physical therapy.

Lyme disease does not spread from person to person via touch, kissing, or sex.
